SPOTLIGHT

A modern retreat that sits lightly on the edge of a peninsula, balancing wooded privacy with expansive lake views (Home #5). A fully electric, solar-ready home with a vaulted main living area, a dramatic lake-facing screened porch, and a raft of high-performance systems and features (#2). A prefab house and sustainable laboratory for city living that celebrates natural and salvaged materials and quirky artifacts from other architecture projects (#11). A 1920s cottage extensively remodeled to fit 2020s living without losing an ounce of its original character (#16).

These and a dozen other architect-designed homes across the Twin Cities metro will welcome tour-goers on September 27 and 28—from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days—with the architects and designers onsite. The 16 in-person stops range widely in style and size, from a contemporary estate on Lake Minnetonka (#3) to a 230-square-foot, cedar-shake-clad sunroom addition in Arden Hills (#12).
